From my experience in Quality Leadership, I see a need for transforming the Quality function from a stereotypical focus on managing quality to leading the charge in promoting a culture rooted in economic value of quality. Quality function can architect and implement system wide solutions that transform the way organization does business, leading to sustainable gains for all stakeholders.
Without a clearly assimilated value for Quality, simply copying different improvement initiatives creates a lot of activity, but the underlying business system remains the same. There is no transformation. When the purpose is clear, solutions emerge that are tailored and effective for the organization.
